Hi Rodney
(We received) your name as a potential STAR for our DWTWS fund raiser to benefit the Waco Family Abuse Center. We pair 12 STARS - 6 male and 6 female - with 12 PROS and each couple performs a 2-3 minute routine. The event this year is on October 26, at the Waco Hippodrome.
I can send you further details if you are interested. It's a great experience and very unique fund raiser, and we'd love to have you be a part.

When the email came I thought it surely a prank. I don't dance. Can't dance. Won't dance.
My wife, when I told her about it, laughed merrily. "They asked you?"
That reaction was not atypical. People who know me likely fall into two groups regarding my dancing. One who would say they have never seen me dance (the majority, for good reason). The other who have and would politely refuse comment on what they observed.
The invitation was real. Worse, the cause extremely worthy.
I sought advice from friends and family. Those that thought I should do it were (I think) as much looking forward gleefully to watching me attempt to dance as anything else.
I was reminded of the story from 2 Samuel in the Bible of King David "dancing before the Lord with all his might" (vs 14). His effort drew criticism to which he responds (vs 21 - 22):
"I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes."
And so, like David, I said yes to becoming undignified, humiliated...to celebrate before the Lord. The lifting up of those in need - the mission of the Waco Family Abuse Center - the goal of this terrifying endeavor.
